This year the International Institute of Refrigeration celebrates its centenary and the final celebration of this significant date for this international scientific and professional institution will take place at the end of the year, within the 39th Congress on Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning in Belgrade, which will be held 100 years after the representatives of many countries of the world met in order to establish this institution.

The celebration of the Institute’s foundation will be an opportunity to remind that the Kingdom of Serbia contributed to its establishment and actively participated in all the meetings that preceded the foundation of the Institute. Similar activities were also present in other European countries, but it was noted that Serbia was among the first three countries where a government commission for refrigeration was formed in 1908.

The International Institute of Refrigeration (L’Insitut International du Froid - IIF, The International Institute of Refrigeration - IIF) announced the centenary of its foundation as »Refrigeration Year 2008«. »Refrigeration is life – let's announce this all over the world« is a message of the International Institute of Refrigeration.

Within the 39th International Congress of the Serbian Society for Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning (Belgrade, 3rd -5th December 2008), the meetings of four IIR's commissions will be held and this congress will be dedicated to the centenary celebration of the International Institute of Refrigeration. The congress will be the final celebration in the series of meetings to be held in 2008 marking 100 years of progress of this significant inter-governmental institution.

The exhibition of equipment and accomplishments accompanying the Congress on Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning continues to break records as for the scope and number of domestic and foreign exhibitors and visitors. The exhibition was held in the Sava Centre in Belgrade in the period from 5th to 7th December 2007, concurrently with the 38th congress.

We were all taken by surprise to hear the unexpected news about the death of  our colleague Vojin Minić, B.M.E. (1949), the owner of a successful travel agency “TTA International” from Belgrade. 

 – we are preparing the 39th Congress

In closing the 38th Congress on HVAC&R, the  President of the Serbian Society for Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning, Professor Branislav Todorovic stated that this congress was successful, that 57 papers were presented, a very successful round table on “clean” rooms” was  held and that the preparations for the next, the 39th Congress are already in progress. The 39th International Congress on Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning and the meeting of 4 commissions of the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) will be held in Belgrade, from 3rd to 5th December 2008, under the slogan "The 100 years of the International Institute of Refrigeration".

The meeting of ASHRAE Danube Chapter included presentation of five papers written by the authors from Romania, Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia.
The Chapter Secretary, Mr. Ioan Dobosi (Romania) submitted a report on the Chapter’s activities and cooperation with REHVA, and Prof. Marija Todorović (Serbia) submitted a report on activities in ASHRAE and the Committee for Student Activities.

The closing event of the 38th International congress was a farewell lunch organized in the Sava Centre restaurant for the congress and exhibition participants. The lunch took place in a pleasant atmosphere and the guests were greeted by Mr. Roberto Leucci, the representative of RHOSS (Italy) who organized this lunch.

The formal dinner – banquette organized in the SAVA Centre restaurant was attended by almost 500 guests. On this occasion, »KGH« plaques and medals were awarded to the winners in 2007, as well as the certificates of gratitude and special diplomas to exhibitors at the HVAC&R equipment and accomplishments exhibition. The first event at the 38th International Congress on Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning was a welcoming cocktail. The cocktail was organized by company GRAPPA from Belgrade, the representative of a famous air-conditioning equipment manufacturer CARRIER (USA). The cocktail took place on the gallery of the SAVA Centre’s lobby, announcing, with its atmosphere,  that this congress will be successful and visited by many people. The cocktail guests were greeted by the director of the company GRAPPA, Mr.   Predrag Filipović, General Manager who wished a successful work to all the congress participants and exhibitors.

Then the congress participants were addressed by the representatives of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Mr. Todorović, the President of the Serbian Union of Engineers and Technicians, Mr. S.Šamšalović, M.Sc, B.M.E, director of the congress general patron TERMOVENT Komerc from Belgrade, Mr. D. Perović, B.M.E, the director of the exhibition patron BEOGRADSKE ELEKTRANE (Belgrade Power Plants) , Mr. V.Marković, B.M.E, as well as a member of the Administrate Board of the congress host,  the SAVA Centre, Mr. D.Jovanović, B.M.E. 
In his introduction speech, the President of the Serbian Society for Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning, Professor Branislav Todorović, PhD, B.M.E  stressed that this congress was attended by participants from all ex-Yugoslav republics, like in 1970 when the first HVAC&R convention was organized.
