Conference regarding the centenary of the AFF and IIR |

The formal celebration of the centenary of the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) and the French Refrigeration Association (Association Francaise du Froid - AFF) was held on 12th June 2008 at the headquarters of UNESCO in Paris, organized by the Institute and the French Refrigeration Association, which was the main patron of this conference with a motto 100 years of development and refrigeration application history.
With over 400 guests, including representatives from embassies, delegates of the Institute member countries and students of physics and engineering, this formal conference was opened by Mr. Louis Lucas, the President of the French Refrigeration Association and the former Director of the Institute.

The opening of the formal conference The present director of the Institute, Mr. Didier Coulomb talked about the century in which refrigeration was technically and technologically developed, describing in detail the course of establishment of the Institute as an international association which was spreading refrigeration knowledge and technology in almost all the countries of the world. He noted and emphasized the fact that the first three countries that had their refrigeration committees were the Netherlands, Serbia and France.

The conference participants Afterward, a broad application of refrigeration in science and everyday life as well as the facts on the current development were discussed by experts from specific fields of refrigeration application. It was emphasized that refrigeration with air-conditioning was one of the most significant accomplishments during the 20th century that have changed the world by improving the quality of life of people.
