IIR EVENTS, International events The IIR co-sponsored 40th International Conference on Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeraton took place in Belgrade, Serbia, on December 2-4, 2009. With 750 participants from 20 countries, 63 papers and 132 exhibitors, the event was highly successuful. The main themes were energy upgrading and the use of reneweble energy sources in existing buildings, improvement of the indoor environment, and addressing of global warming issues. The Minister of Mining and Energy of the Republic of Serbia gave an overview of Serbia energy strategy with a focus on renewable sources. Susan Phalippou recived on behalf of the IIR a medal commemorating the 40th anniversary of the congress and 40 years of cooperation between the IIR and the Serbian Society for Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning.
