International Institute of Refrigeration The International Institute of Refrigeration (L’Insitut International du Froid - IIF, The International Institute of Refrigeration - IIF) announced the centenary of its foundation as »Refrigeration Year 2008«. »Refrigeration is life – let's announce this all over the world« is a message of the International Institute of Refrigeration. Within the 39th International Congress of the Serbian Society for Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning (Belgrade, 3rd -5th December 2008), the meetings of four IIR's commissions will be held and this congress will be dedicated to the centenary celebration of the International Institute of Refrigeration. The congress will be the final celebration in the series of meetings to be held in 2008 marking 100 years of progress of this significant inter-governmental institution.
KINGDOM OF SERBIA – ONE OF THE FOUNDERS OF THE INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF REFRIGERATION The International Institute of Refrigeration was founded in 1908 in Paris, at a special international conference organized within the First International Congress on refrigeration. The delegation of the Kingdom of Serbia and Mr. Đorđe Stanojević, a professor of the Belgrade University, were among the founders, together with the delegations from 33 countries, 19 national associations and 29 diplomatic representatives. The foundation of the International Institute of Refrigeration promoted the development of refrigeration technology and engineering and its use in the foodstuffs supply, from producers to final consumers. The same year, the government Commission for Refrigeration was formed in Serbia, and an academic course of refrigerating, heating and ventilation was introduced at the University of Belgrade. Mr. Đorđe M. Stanojević, a professor at the University of Belgrade, who was a Serbian representative at the First Refrigeration Congress and the convention when the International Institute of Refrigeration was founded, wrote a book titled “Refrigeration Industry” in which he presented general application of artificial refrigeration in different countries, explained the fundamentals of the industrial production of refrigeration, and informed the public on the foundation of the International Institute of Refrigeration. This book was published in 1909 in Belgrade by the Department of Trade, Industry and Traffic, and its phototypic edition was prepared in 2002 by the Society for Heating, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning (KGH) of the Serbian Union of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers and Technicians (SMEITS) on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of the Serbian Union of Engineers and Technicians (1868 – 2003). WE ARE LOOKING FOR THE OLDEST SERBIAN COMPANY DEALING WITH REFRIGERATION The organizer of the 39th International Congress on Heating, Refrigerating and Air-conditioning joins the celebration of IIR’s “ Refrigeration Year 2008” and invites all interested members of the Serbian Society for heating, refrigeration and air-conditioning (“KGH” ) to participate in finding the oldest active company/cold store/craft shop in Serbia dealing with refrigeration. The oldest firm will be specially promoted at the Exhibition of HVAC&R equipment and accomplishments, which is organized in the Sava Centre in Belgrade, within the HVAC&R congress to be held in the period from 3rd to 5th December 2008.
